Connectivity : Jammu & Kashmir

Jammu & Kashmir is located in the northern most tip of India. In the past two decades the state has suffered a major political setback; still it has attracted numerous tourists from across the globe.

By Air

There are three airports in the state namely: Srinagar, Jammu and Leh. Major airlines like Indian Airlines, Jet Airways etc have regular flights from New Delhi to these airports. Jammu airport is 8 km from the city centre and Srinagar airport is 14 km from Srinagar city. Taxis and buses are available at both the airports.

By Rail

Jammu and Kashmir has a well maintained railway network connecting major cities like Delhi, Amritsar Ambala, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Pathankot, Shimla and Manali.

Jammu Tawi is an important rail junction of the Northern Railways serving the Jammu and Kashmir State. The trains operating to/from Jammu are: Malwa Express, Jammu Mail, Jammu Express, Shalimar Express, Sealdah Express, Jhelum Express, Himgiri Express, Himsagar Express, Lohit Express, Sarwodaya Express, Happa Express, Navyug Express, Gorakhpur Express, Barauni Express, Madras Express, Rajdhani Express and Ferozpur Express.

By Road

You can easily reach Jammu by National Highway 1A that goes from Punjab and runs through this city, connecting it to the rest of the state, including the capital Srinagar. Private and state owned buses are available which run to most of the big towns and cities of the neighboring states. However, it is difficult to reach Ladakh. It is connected to Srinagar and Manali by some of the most difficult road networks in the world. The Manali-Leh road is the highest motor-able road in the world.
